The Iron River Lions Club Marie Larson Scholarship Fund helps students in the Iron River area pursue higher education.
The scholarship provides assistance for tuition, fees and books at any accredited two- or four-year school for full-time students. It also is available for attendance at any accredited nonprofit technical program issuing a license or certificate upon graduation.
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors from any public or private school in the Iron River area, defined as the townships of Barnes, Brule, Delta, Hughes, Iron River, Oulu, Tripp and Waino. Scholarship applications are available from high school counselors. The application also requires an essay of 250 to 500 words and references.
Marie Larson, the longtime secretary of the Iron River Lions Club, started a golf tournament to raise money for the scholarship, starting in 2008. The scramble became an annual event and was later named in Marie’s honor.
