G. Scott Ransom Scholarship Fund of the Duluth/Superior Alpine Club

Team Duluth and the Duluth/Superior Alpine Club are pleased to announce the availability of the G. Scott Ransom Scholarship. This scholarship, named in honor of the great contributions of long-time Team Duluth Head Coach Scott “Race” Ransom, is designed to provide assistance to youth members and potential members of Team Duluth, helping offset the team fee costs associated with pursuing a competitive skiing experience. Through that experience, it is hoped that youth athletes involved in Team Duluth will acquire: 

  • Ability to set goals and make the commitments to achieve them
  • A sense of responsibility
  • Self motivation
  • Ability to handle adversity
  • Ability to handle success
  • Ability to work productively with others; embrace teamwork
  • A sense of independence and ability to make choices and live with the ramifications
  • Good time management skills

 

Who May Apply:

Youth athletes, ages 5 to 19 (or high school graduation, whichever comes first) with parental consent, living in Northeastern Minnesota or Northwestern Wisconsin. 

 

DUE DATE:

The application is due by October 11, 2023 at Midnight

 

Commitment Criteria: 

Competitive alpine/freestyle skiing & snowboarding take an extraordinary commitment. Applicant & parent/ guardian must sign the Commitment Statement. 

 

Financial Criteria: 

Financial need must be demonstrated. The application asks you to share any stories related to how this award will impact your financial need. 

 

Academic Standing

A copy of the athlete’s school transcript or report card from the previous school year demonstrating a minimum of a 2.0 GPA is required. 

 

Number, Value and Duration of Awards: 

Awards will vary annually depending on the availability of funds. Recipients may re-apply in subsequent years (awards are not automatically renewable). Scholarships may be available up to the cost of the Team Duluth program in which the applicant is participating. 

 

Payment: 

The award is payable to the Duluth/Superior Alpine Club on behalf of the recipient.

 

AWARD DETERMINATION 

Awards are determined solely and confidentially by the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. The applicant’s financial need, interest and commitment to the ski program will be considered. Names of recipients and their awards will be forwarded to the appropriate person at Team Duluth as soon as possible. Each applicant will receive individual communication informing him/her of the status of his/her application.
