The Duluth Central Sports Association Legacy Scholarship Fund provides financial awards to graduating senior athletes of Duluth public high schools who reside in the geographic area traditionally served by Duluth Central High School. The award is to be used for full-time, postsecondary education at accredited two- or four-year colleges and universities.
Applicants should be graduating seniors from Duluth Denfeld or Duluth East High Schools who live in the area formerly served by Central High School. They must have a GPA of at least 2.5 and an unblemished academic, behavioral and substance abuse record. Applicants must also participate in at least six seasons of sports during their high school careers, with at least two seasons in varsity sports. Finally, applicants must submit a 300- to 400-word essay on the theme, “What sports participation has meant to me.”
Recipients will be chosen based on their contributions to their team(s)—especially contributions off the court, field or rink—academic records, written recommendations and the essays.
In 2009, when the Duluth Public Schools approved the plan to consolidate high schools and close Duluth Central, the Duluth Central Sports Association established this scholarship to honor past athletes, coaches, athletic directors and the “Trojan Spirit” of Duluth’s then-oldest high school.
