Mahmud and Corey bring knowledge in business, housing

DULUTH—Two leaders have joined the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation’s Board of Trustees.

Sakib Mahmud is an associate professor of sustainable management and economics at the University of Wisconsin-Superior. His research focuses on small business economics, climate change adaptation and community resiliency. He also serves on the boards of the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Superior and the Duluth Superior Eco Rotary Club. In addition, he is vice president of the Islamic Center of Twin Ports and faculty adviser to the student-led Sustainability Club at UWS.

Jeff Corey is executive director of One Roof Community Housing. He focuses on housing and economic justice and helped lead the merger of Neighborhood Housing Services and the Northern Communities Land Trust, creating One Roof. He also has helped develop or redevelop more than 500 housing units in the Twin Ports, including the Steve O’Neil Apartments, Gateway Towers, Decker Dwellings and the soon-to-open Brewery Creek Apartments for clients of Life House.

“We are grateful for the community knowledge and commitment that these two leaders bring,” foundation President and CEO Shaun Floerke said. “They join a group of dedicated volunteers with passion for making a difference across the region.”

The foundation thanked outgoing trustees Koresh Lakhan and Nels Ojard for their service.
