The Walter and Anna Soneson Scholarship Fund provides a four-year renewable scholarship to recognize the academic accomplishments of Protestant graduates of Duluth public high schools who will attend an accredited college or university in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota or Wisconsin.
Applicants must be Protestant (Lutheran, Baptist, Methodist, Congregationalist, etc.), have resident in Duluth for at least three years before graduating from a Duluth public high school, be in the top one-third of their graduating class, have completed the SAT or ACT, demonstrate good character and have at least some financial need.
The will of Anna Soneson Rahn created the scholarship fund in 1961. The scholarship is renewable for four years, assuming continued good character and academic progress (GPA of 2.75 or more in the first year and 3.0 or greater in subsequent years). Depending on the availability of funds, the scholarship may support full-time summer school attendance for sufficient academic credits.
