Disaster Relief Fund Supports Region’s Flood Recovery

Urgent Appeal for Donations to Support Flood Relief Across the Region

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation has Mobilized the Disaster Relief Fund to Aid Flood Victims

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation is urgently raising funds to aid community members devastated by severe flash flooding throughout the Arrowhead region.
The region was battered by waves of thunderstorms, dropping over seven inches of rain in some areas, leading to widespread road washouts and flooding. With more rain in the forecast, the damage is expected to increase in the coming week, potentially resulting in millions of dollars needed for recovery.

“Our entire region needs assistance as we begin rebuilding and recovering. We are committed to being part of that process and providing community members and those who love our region a way to help,” said Shaun Floerke, President and CEO of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation. “We are proud of our strong nonprofit community, which makes our region resilient. We aim to support these nonprofits as they help people on the front lines of recovery.”

The hardest-hit areas, including the Iron Range, North Shore, and Wisconsin’s Bayfield Peninsula, all fall within the Community Foundation’s service area. The Disaster Relief Fund will provide critical financial assistance to local organizations that can leverage resources to best support those impacted by the flooding. Funding will be aimed toward recovery projects such as mold remediation, temporary housing assistance, mental health services, infrastructure repair, community clean-ups and more.

Information about applying for a Disaster Relief Fund grant will be shared soon. Visit the Community Foundation’s website for the most up-to-date information

The Foundation’s efforts are coordinated with city, county, and state government agencies. These collaborations have been ongoing since the 2012 flood, with partnerships through Ready North, a disaster response and resiliency coalition established following that disaster. Since the 2012 flood, The Community Foundation has raised and granted over $1.5 million to support local disaster relief and recovery efforts.
