What is the Young Leaders Fund?

The Young Leaders Fund is a fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation that recognizes young adults and their efforts to assist in making the Duluth-Superior Community an exciting place to live. The mission of the Young Leaders Fund is to support organizations that give young adults (ages 21-35) in Duluth and Superior a chance to lead or improve the quality of life for young adults.

Why young people?

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation is committed to a number of community initiatives including Attracting and Retaining Young Adults. In 2006, the Community Foundation convened a young adult task force that spent one year developing six core solutions to help keep young people in the region. One of these solutions was to create a permanent fund to help non-profits that are providing leadership opportunities for young adults or enhancing the quality of life for young adults. Today, the Fund is established and a 12-person advisory committee is busy building the Fund’s endowment and making grant recommendations.

What types of projects does the Young Leaders Fund support?

The Young Leaders Fund gives priority to projects that provide opportunities for leadership skill development, civic engagement, entrepreneurship, technology, college and university community connections, awareness of career and economic opportunities, and public relations and marketing of special events that may increase the quality of life for young adults.

Who is eligible for funding?

To apply, an organization must be classified as a charitable organization under Section 501 (c)(3) of the IRS; or classified as a public entity to which contributions may be deducted under Section 170(c)(1) of the IRS.

Organizations that qualify and are interested in applying for funding should first fill out an inquiry form which is located by following this link.
